Photo of the Day

I have seen some great examples of Photo of the Day.
The photo on the right of the watermelon doesn't do it justice in the small size. Click on the images below to see them in more detail.

It's amazing how an image in image in black and white changes how things look.

This is a picture of our Friary taken by Bianca. Looks fantastic.

Here's another creative one by Georgia.

Here is another one from Ante who took the photo of the Watermelon for Photo of the Week.
I have heard that the lady bug was taken from another plant to put into the picture, however, it's still a great photo.

Building Optimism in Children

I was directed to an article the other day and thought that although it really looks like it focusses on the first day of school for Kinders, it really applies throughout the year and as High School "nerves" start to appear it might be useful.
I have included a link here for you to have a look at it.

Summary of Parent Information Night

On Monday evening we held our Parent Information Night. It was very well attended and we covered quite a few topics including:
·                        Blogging – both students and class blogs
·                        iPad use guidelines and e-safety licence
·                       Our school goals for the year                  - Religion
         -       Literacy and
         -       Maths
·                       Our excursion to Canberra
·                       Homework

One thing we missed talking about was Genius Hour.  Genius Hour is one hour per week dedicated to the children researching a question that they are interested in finding out the answer to, something that they love and are passionate about. Once they have researched the answer they need to put a presentation together to show to the rest of the class. This will happen in weeks 9 & 10 of this term. They can present any way they like other than cardboard and paper. They can make an iMovie, a slideshow, a Google Slides, an animated movie, stop go animation, use an app, make a model etc
We are looking at whether it is possible to film this on Google hangouts so that it can be seen by parents.  We will let you know closer to the day if this is possible.

If you would like to know more or you have some concerns please contact us.

Mathematics Assessment Interviews (MAI's)

On Monday we have a Staff Development Day where we will be continuing our MAI's. These interviews allow us to pinpoint areas where we can improve the children in Mathematics.
A few parents books in for the Tuesday before school started and some more have booked in for Monday. I still have a few spots left for Monday and I am keen to fill them.
If you go to   http://www.schoolinterviews.com.au then  put in code NFG83  and click on my name                you can access the few that are left. The other children will be done over the next few weeks after school where possible. I will put up some more time slots on the same website.
Once they are scored I will be able to provide feedback and we will be able to adjust our programme to address the needs of the children.
